Terminator: Genisys' is the first part of a standalone 'Terminator' trilogy. In it, John Connor, leader of the resistance in the year 2029, continues the war against the machines.

When he learns of a plot to send a Terminator back in time to kill his mother, he sends Kyle Reese to protect her, but the Sarah Connor that Kyle finds is different than what he expected.
