Thai cave rescue: Navy official dies in rescue task to save children

Two weeks back a young football team along with their coach got stuck inside a cave in Thailand. With the water flooding the path of the cave, resue missions and teams from around the world are trying their best to find a way to get the group out.

The latest update, albeit a sad one, is that a former Thai military Navy SEAL diver who was involved in the rescue mission is now dead. The deceased is identified as Saman Kuniont who(38) who was returning from the chamber where the boys were trapped. He was trying to establish an oxygen line to the chamber where the children were trapped.

Now the death of the diver has serious implications on the possibilties of rescuing the 12 member group and its coach. The Thai Navy SEAL Commander has stated that they have no choice but to attempt the tricky extraction from the Thang Luang cave before the cave is flooded with the imminent monsoon rain.

It is also worth mentioning here that most of the boys are unable to swim with no diving experience. Nonetheless, the team is being given breathing training and basic diving if an evacuate order is given.
