Raja has directed a string of remakes, and Thani Oruvan marks director Mohan Raja's first straight film. "Next to my father, producer Kalpathi Agoram is someone who is very fond of me. Right after we made Santhosh Subramaniam for his production house, he booked Ravi and myself for a project and told me that I should do it as a straight film. It is the freedom that he gave me that enhanced the production values of the film," says Raja.
