Financier Mukund Chand Bothra had filed a cheque fraud case against Dhanush's father director Kasthuriraja to the tune of 65 lakhs in which he had also named Rajinikanth in the case. However Rajini's council had replied that it was with the intent of money extortion that Bothra had included his name. Bothra in turn had filed a defamation case against Rajini regarding which he was ordered to appear before the court in person on June 6th.

Superstar Rajinikanth in his petition has stated that since there is already a civil case in this regard pending it is contradictary to file another case. He has asserted the case is filed so as to give him mental torture and should be dismissed.
