This Pongal festive season saw the release of two of the biggest movies of the year, and the most anticipated ones - Superstar Rajnikanth starrer, Karthik Subabraj directorial Petta, and Thala Ajith starrer, Siva directorial Viswasam, both of which were released on January 10. With humongous expectations and hype riding on them, both Petta and Viswasam have come out with flying colors at the box office irrespective of reviews.

Even as the movies are contending for the top spot at the box office, there's another battle that has been happening between the teams, ever since the trailers of the movies were released. While  Petta trailer carried a dialogue "Evanavathu Pondaati, Pulla kutty sentiment irundha odi poiru" which was taken in an offensive manner by Ajith fans as against Viswasam which was a family entertainer, then followed Viswasam trailer with dialogues like "Unga mela kola kovam varanum aana ungala enakku pudikuthe" which was considered to be a challenge to Petta by Rajni fans.

Yesterday, the battle continued, as producers Sun pictures came up with a video featuring prominent distributor Tirupur Subramanyam claiming that Petta will cross 100 crores in TN alone by Sunday and it will be the fastest, while immediately came response from VIswasam distributors KJR studios twitter handle, announcing that Viswasam had already crossed 125 crores in TN alone. With this warring trend betwen production houses being criticized already, today the battle extended further with Sun pictures releasing a "LOL" promo with all characters of Petta laughing out loud, which was considered by many as an indirect attack on the collection declaration of Viswasam, and yet again, KJR studios came up with a promo, with the dialogue "Ungala enakku Pudikuthe, Long Live, Happy life". While these tweets from the Pongal contestants teams might be unintentional, it has been serving entertainment for audience even outside theaters screening Viswasam and Pettai.
