The Unexpected Box Office Journey of Orange Movie's Initial Release

After the massive success of ‘Magadheera’, Ramcharan’s next film, ‘Orange’, directed by Bhaskar, released in 2010 with high expectations but unfortunately became a commercial failure. This result influenced Ramcharan’s choice of scripts, leading him to avoid doing full-fledged love stories after that. Director Bhaskar’s career declined after this, and producer Nagababu faced financial difficulties.
Despite its box office failure, ‘Orange’ had one of the best soundtracks in Telugu cinema, with all six songs remaining popular among music lovers. Ramcharan’s style in the film is still admired and followed by youngsters. Many believe the film was ahead of its time, and had it been released after 2020, it would have been more successful.
Supporting this theory, the film performed exceptionally well during its re-release last year, collecting around ₹5 Crores with multiple houseful shows. Crowds, especially in Hyderabad, turned theatres into a concert-like atmosphere.
‘Orange’ was re-released again this Valentine’s Day, and yet again, audiences flocked to theatres. As of now, around 60,000 tickets have been sold on the Book My Show platform, with numbers expected to rise further.
The film’s re-release success raises the question—what if ‘Orange’ had been successful in 2010? It could have led to more love story films from Ramcharan and a stronger career for Bhaskar. However, back then, it was a disaster, influencing both Ramcharan’s film choices and Bhaskar’s career trajectory.
