The supreme court has imposed a stay on the death sentence imposed on Divakar, who had murdered lovers before 8 years in Theni. In 2011, college student Kasthuri and her lover Ezhil Mudhalvan were found dead in Cumbum route from Suruli to Kailasanathar cave temple.

Following CBCID Investigation, they had arrested Divakar alias Kattavellai from Karunakkamuthanpatti, and it was revealed that Divakar had found the couple in the forest area, and had blackmailed them to get the money they had, and later murdered Ezhil Mudhalvan, and raped Kasthuri, and finally murdered her as  well. The case proceedings went for 8 years, following which he was awarded 7 years rigorous imprisonment, a life sentence and a death sentence.

During the hearing on March 13, the judges confirmed the death sentence awarded to Divakar, and following this, Divakar's side had made an appeal challenging the verdict in the Supreme court. Earlier it was announced that Divakar must be hanged on April 22, and now the Supreme court has stayed the death sentence for Divakar.
