Director Maniratnam who had last directed the multistarrer Chekka Chivantha Vaanam is next directing Ponniyin Selvan, based on Kalki Krishnamoorthy's novel of the same name. This movie will begin shooting later this month and will have a huge star cast from various industries.

Before few weeks it was said that actor Parthiban will be acting in Ponniyin Selvan, and a photo of Maniratnam and Parthiban was viral on social media. However the latest update is that Parthiban is set to begin his next movie as a director and has opted out of Ponniyin Selvan.

Recently actor Lal had revealed on social media that he is acting in Ponniyin Selvan and that he is taking horse riding lessons for the warrior role. Ponniyin Selvan also stars Vikram, Trisha, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Aishwarya Rai and has music by AR Rahman.
