This is how fake news about KCR's lockdown went viral in India

After Monday's presser presided over by Telangana CM KCR, a number of national media houses incorrectly reported that he had announced the extension of the ongoing lockdown till June 3. The fake news came to be reported widely in no time. So much so, officials brought it to KCR's notice during the presser itself. Vexed with the fake news, KCR abused the journalists who had misquoted him.

How did so many media houses misinterpret KCR's statement? They had all sourced their news from ANI, the news agency, which was the first to misquote the CM.

Minutes later, alerted by several followers, ANI corrected itself and said that KCR had made no such announcement. KCR made a reference to a consultancy report on why extending the lockdown till June 3 would be good for India. He didn't make any announcement, ANI tweeted out later. By then, the fake news had gone viral in India.
