Those attempting to disrupt communal harmony won’t be spared, CM warns

Tamil Nadu chief-minister Edapadi K. Palaniswami has warned that those attempting to disturb communal harmony in the State won’t be spared.

The chief-minister was responding on the floor of the Legislative Assembly to DMK MLA Austin’s observations about the incidents occurring en route the VHP’s Raam Rajya Rath Yatra which entered Tamil Nadu from Kerala under controversial circumstances a few days back.  Ruckus broke up in the Assembly a few days back when Leader of the Opposition M.K. Stalin led his party MLAs’ protest against the permission accorded to the ‘Rath Yatra’ by the AIADMK regime to enter the State.

Austin spoke about attack on a church in Madurai and later moved a calling attention motion with the Congress MLAs.  “Hindutva organizations are indulged in attacking Christian organizations and pastors in Madurai and Kanniyakumari,” he observed and added that these organizations are acting in a bold manner with the confidence that the BJP-led Centre would bail them out of any scenario.

Responding to him, the chief-minister said that 3 cases of attack had been registered with the Koodalpudhur Police Station and the cases were being interrogated.  “We won’t remain a mute spectator to acts which might disturb the State’s communal harmony; we shall take strict action against those involved in such acts,” he said.
