Three engineering students from Jammu and Kashmjr were arrested by the Agra police in Uttar Pradesh for allegedly celebrating Pakistan's victory against India in their first match of the ongoing ICC Men's T20 World Cup. The students were also attacked outside a court in Agra by a group of men who were chanting the slogan "Bharat Mata Ki Jai" (Long live India).

A tweet from Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's office indicated that the students, identified as Arsheed Yousuf, Altaf Sheikh, and Showkat Ahmed Ganai, studying at the Raja Balwant Singh Management Technical Campus in Agra, may face sedition charges as well. The arrests were made by the police outside the college campus after a group of men from the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), BJP's youth wing, entered the college premises without seeking permission and accused the students of being "traitors." While the college administration condemned the RW group for trespassing, they also suspended the three students for "being involved in (the) indiscipline act of posting status in favour of Pakistan."

An FIR was registered under sections 153 A and 505 (1)(b) of the Indian Penal Code and section 66F of the IT Act 2008 against the students who were then taken to the Jagdishpura police station in Lohamandi. Apart from the Kashmiri students, four other people in various parts of Uttar Pradesh had also been arrested in similar charges.
