Tamil cinema has seen many comedians dominate in different eras and T.R. Ramachandran scored among giants of his era that included Thangavelu, N.S. Krishnan, M.R. Radha, A.Karunanidhi and V.K. Ramaswamy.  Ramachandran was known as 'Munda Kannan Ramachandran' due to his saucer shaped eyes which in itself provided laughter to the audiences when he appeared on screen.

Born in Trichy, T.R.Ramachandran took to the stage at 14 as a fifth standard school dropout and after many struggles debuted in a small role in 'Nandakumar' in 1939 and the very next year got a lead role in a film 'Vaayadi' in which he impressed as a henpecked husband.  1942 gave TRR his most memorable film 'Sabapathy' directed and produced by A.V. Meyappan which is also Tamil cinema's first full length comedy movie.

in 1954, Sivaji Ganesan even after becoming a superstar played second fiddle to T.R. Ramachandran in 'Kalyanam Panniyum Brammachari'.  What set TRR apart from other comedians of all time is that he was so subtle and natural in his acting and did not resort to loud body language or dialogue delivery.  It is our pleasure to remember the unique legend for our Throwback Thursday this week.
