Kamal Haasan’s much-anticipated film Thug Life, directed by Mani Ratnam, is already making waves ahead of its global release on June 5. The reunion of Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam after decades—following their iconic collaboration in Nayagan—has generated massive buzz across the film industry and among fans.
With filming now complete and post-production in its final phase, promotional and commercial activities are underway at full throttle.
In a surprising development, Thug Life has reportedly earned over ₹200 crores even before hitting theatres. A major chunk of this comes from OTT rights, which have been acquired by a leading streaming platform for a staggering ₹150 crores. Additionally, Vijay TV is said to have secured the satellite rights for ₹60 crores.
Positioned as a pan-India release, the film is expected to set new box office records and potentially outshine the collections of Kamal Haasan’s blockbuster Vikram. The massive pre-release business is a testament to the immense anticipation surrounding the film, both domestically and internationally.
Thug Life boasts an ensemble cast including Kamal Haasan, Silambarasan, Trisha, Abhirami, Nasser, Ali Fazal, Pankaj Tripathi, Ashok Selvan, Joju George, Aishwarya Lekshmi, and Vaiyapuri. The music is composed by A.R. Rahman, with cinematography by Ravi K. Chandran. The film is jointly produced by Rajkamal Films International, Madras Talkies, and Red Giant Movies.
