16-year-old social media star Charli D'Amelio became the first person to gain 100 million followers on TikTok. However, she recently lost a million followers after posting a controversial video of her family at dinner.

In the video that featured Charli, her sister, their parents and a surprise guest, the TikTok star was seen criticizing the food prepared by the chef while her sister ran outside to vomit after taking a bite of the snail dish. Throughout the video, Charli was also seen complaining about not reaching 100 million followers on TikTok sooner. Users took to social media soon after to call out Charli for her "rude," "entitled," and "ungrateful" attitude and nearly a million people unfollowed her. Reacting to the criticism, Charli spoke about the incident on an Instagram live session. "It was all just one huge misunderstanding. It's completely blown out of proportion. No matter what I say, no matter how I handle any of this, people are still going to think what they're going to think and that's fine, because those are the people who, in the long run, weren't going to be there for me at the end of the day, and that's fine, I understand that. It wasn't something where I truly meant to be hurtful or truly meant to put anyone down," Charli said.

While talking about some of the abusive, hateful messages she received, Charli broke down and said that she wasn't sure she wanted to use the internet anymore. "Seeing how people reacted to this, I don't even know if I want to do this anymore. This is messed up stuff that people are saying. People telling me to hang myself, people blatantly disrespecting the fact that I'm a human being, is not OK at all. You can hate on me for whatever I've done, but the fact that all of this is happening because of a misunderstanding, I just feel like that's not OK. If this is the community that I'm in and the community that I put myself in, I don't know if I want to do that anymore," she added.
