A Heartwarming Family Drama - Tourist Family
Produced by Million Dollar Studios and MRP Entertainment, Tourist Family is directed by Abisahn Jeevinth and features an ensemble cast including Sasikumar, Simran, M.S. Bhaskar, Yogi Babu, Bucks, Ilango Kumaravel, and Mithun Jayashankar.
The story revolves around Dharmadas and his family, refugees from Sri Lanka who flee to India in search of a livelihood. They eventually find stability—a job, a home—and begin living a happy life. But their peace is shattered by a bomb blast, and Dharmadas’s family becomes the scapegoat. What happens next forms the crux of the story.
While the storyline may sound heavy and emotional, the film maintains a light-hearted tone throughout, blending comedy, warmth, and subtle emotions. Director Abishan Jeevinth deserves praise for achieving this delicate balance.
Sasikumar continues his mature and thoughtful script choices with Tourist Family, following films like Ayothi, Garudan, and Nandhan. He seems to consciously avoid hero-centric glorification, instead choosing socially relevant stories. His performance here lifts the film significantly.
Simran begins a new phase in her career with this film. She not only remains trending but is also picking roles that suit her perfectly. She shines in comedic scenes as well. Among the sons, Mithun Jayashankar plays the serious one, while young Kamalesh delivers an energetic and humorous contrast—he's easily the biggest comedy package in the film.
Yogi Babu, M.S. Bhaskar, Ramesh Thilak, Bhagavathi Perumal, and Ilango Kumaravel each portray well-crafted roles, all contributing meaningful moments and messages at different points in the narrative.
Aravind Viswanathan’s cinematography captures the natural beauty of Keshav Colony with finesse. Editor Bharat Vikraman maintains a brisk pace in the first half; the second half could’ve used a bit more speed. Shaun Rolton’s music plays like a character of its own—while the peppy “Achaale…” rings in the ears, the soulful “Mugai Mazhai…” lingers in the heart.
The film also conveys a timely message about the need for more recognition and livelihood support for refugees. One slight drawback is the portrayal of only Sasikumar’s character as the sole "good man"—a bit more balance would have helped the drama feel more nuanced.
All in all, Tourist Family is a refreshing break from violent action films—a wholesome family entertainer perfect for holiday viewing with children. It's a film you can confidently choose to enjoy.
