Trump's Kashmir remarks spark controversy, India exposes his lie

US President Donald Trump sought to put India in a soup by claiming that Narendra Modi last month requested him to play an arbiter between India and Pakistan on the long-standing Kashmir dispute.

Even as many started expressing shock from across the world, the Ministry of External Affairs did the right thing by coming with a counter. It almost said that Trump lied! We have seen the Potus' remarks to the press that he is ready to mediate, if requested by India and Pakistan, on Kashmir issue. No such request has been made by our Prime Minister to the US President, India said.

Our official statement further said that it has been India's consistent position that all outstanding issues with Pakistan are discussed only bilaterally. Any engagement with Pakistan would require an end to cross border terrorism. The Shimla Agreement and the Lahore Declaration provide the basis to resolve all issues between India and Pakistan bilaterally, the official note said.

Meanwhile, Trump continues to face flak both from within the country and outside for the delusional remarks. Edward Luce, an Editor from the US, said, By offering to mediate on Kashmir, Trump said something deeply provocative to India, which has always refused 3rd party mediation. India is America's most important natural ally in its rivalry with China. Hard to overstate the stupidity and ignorance of what Trump said.
