BMC commissioner Iqbal Chahal has made it clear that most of the people who are requiring oxygen in Covid hospitals are unvaccinated ones. Vaccinated yet covid-positive patients are not reaching ICU care.

As per the official, as much as 96% of the Covid-positive patients who are admitted to nearly 200 hospitals in Mumbai and currently on oxygen beds are unvaccinated. This drives home the fact that vaccination is paramount to avoid hospitalization and death.

At present, stocks to the tune of 21 lakh vaccine units are available with the municipal authorities. Only vaccine hesitancy is preventing people from getting themselves vaccinated.

India currently has nearly 4.3 lakh active cases, of which one lakh are in Mumbai. The oxygen requirement is hardly 10 tonnes at the moment.
