Vadivelu is finished: Industry body imposes ban

Iconic Tamil comedian Vadivelu has been banned from acting in Tamil cinema. The Tamil Film Producers Council has sent a circular to all its members not to book him with immediate effect. The decision has been taken after Vadivelu refusing to budge to an amicable solution in the controversy he has had with director Shankar.

Shankar first introduced Vadivelu as a hero with 'Imsai Arasan 23aam Pulikesi' (dubbed in Telugu as 'Himsinche 23 Va Raju Pulikesi'), directed by Simbu Devan, which became a hit when released in 2006. The film catupulted the comedian to the status of a parallel leading man and his salary skyrocketed after that.

Shankar once again signed up Vadivelu to reprise his dual roles in a sequel to the movie and paid a huge sum as advance. Costly sets were erected and after a few days of shooting, the comedian refused to continue citing petty issues such as the team insulting his client.

Following Shankar's complaint, the TFPC asked Vadivelu to either continue shooting for the film or pay Rs. 9 Cr as damages for the expenses incurred so far. With the actor not responding to the notices, the Council has imposed a ban on him.
