During the Pongal festival organized at the Income Tax Department office in Madurai, comedian Vadivelu humorously suggested, "Tax the rich generously and consider the poor lightly."
The event was held at the Income Tax Recreation Club in the BB Kulam area. Chief Commissioner of Income Tax Sanjay Rao, Principal Commissioner Vasanthan, and others participated in the celebrations. Comedian Vadivelu was the special guest and shared humorous anecdotes during his speech.
He said, “My uncle named me Narayanan, but my mother changed it to Vadivelu due to health reasons. I have faced immense struggles in life, just like the character in the movie Maamannan. This led me to become a comedian. It’s a joy to have come so far in life.”
Speaking to reporters later, Vadivelu expressed, “It feels like I’ve had an early Pongal celebration. I’ll try attending the Jallikattu festival if possible, but finding someone to catch the bull is difficult these days. Jallikattu is progressing wonderfully now. After Pongal, I’ll start my next movie projects, including Sundar C's ‘Gangsters,’ a film with Fahadh Faasil titled ‘Marison,’ and another collaboration with Prabhu Deva.”
On stage, Vadivelu humorously urged the authorities to levy taxes more heavily on those who can afford it and show consideration for the poor and underprivileged. He added, “This was just a light-hearted suggestion. Nowadays, I carefully select movies. ‘Gangsters’ will be a family entertainer enjoyable for children as well.”
