Music review for Valliyum thetti pulliyum thetti

While the brand new movie VTPT is trying its luck at the theatres and the fate of the movie in box office not yet decided, we have all the time in the world to look into the music of the film. Suraj s Kurup is the man with whom, the movie has been trusted for its music and let's see what he cooked up.

#1 VAATHE POOTHAE The first track from the movie is a fast number, suiting the title and is sung by Vithu Pratap and the composer himself, Sooraj S Kurup. The track pumps up the adrenaline and song lyrics remind you of the old rhymes and country songs from the childhood games. The song serves the movie well and registers the name of the movie and makes you rush to the tracks that follow. As the saying goes, first impression is the best impression.

#2 PULARKAALAM POLE Embrace yourself, for all the wedding albums that come after this, is destined to feature this song in it. The vibes the song brings in is marvelous and the composer roped in Madonna Sebastian to sing this, who is now a noted actor too. So there is no way one can miss this track sung by her along with Haricharan and again the composer have penned down the lyrics too. Excited and refreshed, you just can't wait to move on to the next song, but you are coming back again and again for this one. #3 POORAM KAANAAN For a movie that revolves around a country fest, the song is essential and with this one, it is all taken care of. Rendered to the folk flavoured lyrics written by Sooraj, the song features vocals of Vijay Yesudas and Sithara Krishnakumar. It has got a stint of the popular folk `kaantha' and is very appropriate must have in the movoie considering the movie is all about pooram (fest) and events revolving around it.

#4 KANNUKAL KAALIDARI This is the fist track that you are going to fall in love with out of the whole 6 tracks. This one comes packed with everything. The skill of the composer as a sound engineer is evident and the sounds are all new, if you have noted a Reethigowla mandolin. Its nothing like anything you have heard so far in Malayalam songs and made rich with effects and vocals that make it a naughty yet lovable track. This is completely a Sooraj S Kurup song, in terms of lyrics, music, programming or composing. Was the composer saving the best one for himself?

#5 ENNO KAATHIL It seems like Sooraj, the composer for Valliyum Thetti Pulliyum Thetti wanted no stones unturned for his musical debut. He had almost all the major sounds of the industry rendering voices for his compositions and it's really a surprise when you see Vineeth Sreenivasan singing in the studio for VTPT, as Vineeth himself is busy with his team. But there is always time for a song for this talented singer who was given a song that stands out from the mood of all the other songs in the movie. The song has got a depth and ends quite fast, and must be definitely made with an aim to invoke it at the right moments in the movie. It serves fine as a background score too.

#6 ARE THU I was saving the best for last, and this one here is my current favourite. Not because of its fast festive beats, but for its composition and a quirky lyrics. The lyric goes well along with the beats and situation. The structuring of the song is absolutely brilliant. The interesting part of the song is the narrative lines that describe the meeting of lord Hanuman with Raavan. Sooraj have rendered his voice alongside Sachin Warrier, Hesham Abdul Wahab, Ashwathy Krishnakumar and penned the lyrics for this one too. This song thus easily highlights itself with its uniqueness and epicness!

Verdict: For a generation obsessed with combo packs and offers, Sooraj S Kurup comes with quiet a lot of skills single handedly and had lavishly spent on his debut as a music composer. The songs gave the movie all the hype it need, and Sooraj S Kurup is someone who deserves to be looking forwarded to. *Chackochan already gave Sooraj his next project, Kochavva Paulo Ayyappa Coelho, a production for Udaya by Chackochan himself. Someone is deeply impressed for sure.
