About the movie:

In the past, societal norms and regulations mandated heterosexual marriages for procreation, and any deviation was sternly enforced worldwide. However, with modern advancements, including contraception and the freedom to choose parenthood, many countries now recognize same-sex couples as equals to heterosexual couples.

In India, the LGBTQ+ community has passionately protested against discrimination, asserting that love is not a crime. The Supreme Court's stance in favor of same-sex couples' rights further highlighted this issue, although societal acceptance remains challenging. This backdrop sets the stage for the film 'Vazhvu Thodangum idam Neethane,' available on the Shortflix OTT platform.

The story unfolds in Tharangambadi, located on the Mayiladuthurai district's coast. Irrfan (Arshad Feraz) has harbored affection for his fellow student Shakira (Niranjana Neithiar) since their school days. To his dismay, his father arranges his marriage without consulting him, but the unexpected revelation that Shakira is the intended bride brings renewed hope.

A phone call from Shakira sparks excitement in Irrfan. However, their seaside meeting takes an unexpected turn when Shakira reveals her favor – to reunite with her girlfriend, Vinodha (Sruthi Periyasamy).

Shakira's flashback unveils her passionate relationship with Vinodha, a documentary filmmaker from Trichy, which was met with violent opposition from her father.

Shakira turns to Irrfan for assistance in reuniting with Vinodha. Did Irrfan agree to help? The narrative tackles this question in a unique storytelling manner.

Niranjana Neithiar portrays Shakira, a Muslim woman, while Sruthi Periyasamy embodies Vinodha, a contemporary documentary director. Both actors deliver stellar performances, depicting their attraction and emotional connection realistically without resorting to explicit scenes. Arshad Feraz, as Irrfan, convincingly portrays the journey from joy to shock and his determination to fulfill Shakira's desires.

In a powerful, ninety-minute film, devoid of explicit content, 'Vazhvu Thodangum Idam Neethane' poignantly underscores that love, regardless of gender, deserves respect and recognition, as much as heterosexual love.
