With activities on one side arguing that encounters should be banned in view of protecting human rights, police on the other is struggling to do anything it takes to bring down crime and eliminate rowdies. The conflict has been on for quite sometime now, gaining vigour with each passing day. Now with the rise in crime rates and also the urgent need to bring that down, director Thirumalai Vendhan has come up with an entertaining solution to the conflict. Canned in Chennai and parts of Goa, based on a real police encounter that occurred in a Chennai suburb recently, 'Velachery' starring Sarath Kumar as a dedicated police officer committed to drastically bring crime down and Ineya as a lawyer and activist arguing that human rights be protected and encounter be banned, is the answer to the days-long question on encounters, says the director.

Produced as a high budget by S Mani for Sivam Movies, the film is canned by Chandran of 'Kalavaram', 'Mahabalipuram', 'Aivar and 'Panivizhum Malarvanam' fame, at par with Hollywood flicks. With Pa Vijay, Viveka, Snegan and Gana Bala penning down lyrics, Tajnoor has composed music for 'Velachery', which will have stunts choreographed by 'Billa' Jegan and dialogues crafted by 'Soodhu Kavvum' Sreenivasan. Nizhalgal Ravi, Imman Annachi and Singamuthu, among others, are also part of the star cast.
