I V Sasi is the living legend of Malayalam cinema, who was the biggest name of Mollywood in the eighties. The director who is one of the major names to have created the starry seats to present day superstars - Mammootty and Mohanlal, had a different story to tell in the recent years. Unable to cop with the changing trends he was amidst an array of flops in the last few years, after which the director had been sidelined in the industry. Now after a couple of years in silence, I V Sasi is trying for a comeback, teaming up with one of he best writers of Malayalam - John Paul. Their new film together, titled `Vellathooval' is all set to grace the theatres this week.

`Vellathooval', tells the story of two teenagers - Manu and Jiya. Manu is the only son of Sofia, for whom, he is the whole world. Sofia who was widowed at an early age, agreed for a re-marriage to Zachariah, in the belief that he will support her son as well and help her with her parental duties. But as days went by, Zacharia proved to become a menace and burden to Sofia and her son Manu.

Jiya is one of Manu's closest friends. They study at the same college and when Manu realises that Jiya is another person who has similar problems at her home, both of them plans to leave home and take the security of the open society. But the society as usual tries to brand their intense friendship in an aura of love. Vellathooval is thus based on a story about friendship between a boy and a girl who become runaways, but is mistook for love by others including their parents.

The film features Renjith Menon (hero of Kamal's `Goal') and `Aakasha Gopouram' fame Nitya, a Malayalee girl from Bangalore'. Seetha is Sofia while Vijayaraghavan plays Zachariah. Laloo Aalex and Seema play Jiya's parents. Also in the cast are Jayakrishnan, Genshkumar, Sreelatha, Shwetha Menon, Anil and Jagathy.

Vetran scenarist Johnapaul, whose scripts had been the backbone of many great movies of the eighties, is coming together with I V Sasi after a gap of around two decades. The movie will also have cinematographer Aanandakutan cranking the camera for a Sasi film, for the first time. The movie planned as a musical, will feature a few songs by veteran Johnson, who will be making a comeback to Mollywood through this movie.

Produced under the banner of Anugraha Arts, `Vellathooval' will be brought to theatres  by Mulakupadom release.
