Veteran Actress B Saroja Devi Passes Away

The iconic actress B. Saroja Devi, known for her extensive work in South Indian cinema and Hindi films, has passed away at the age of 87. The actress had been dealing with age-related health issues for some time and was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Bangalore. She passed away this morning, around 9 AM.
Born in 1938 in Bangalore, Saroja Devi rose to fame with her versatile roles in numerous films across various languages, including Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, and Hindi. Her first taste of the film industry came when she was just 13, but she initially turned down the offer. However, it wasn’t long before she made her big-screen debut with the 1955 film Mahakavi Kalidasu, which turned out to be a massive success.
She solidified her position in Telugu cinema with the 1957 film Panduranga Mahatyam, which brought her stardom in the Telugu film industry. Over the span of 70 years, Saroja Devi acted in nearly 200 films, leaving a lasting impact on the film industry.
In 1985, during the shooting of Ladies Hostel, tragedy struck when her husband fell ill and passed away the following year. Following his death, Saroja Devi took a break from acting, refraining from signing new films. She remained away from the limelight for almost five years before making a gradual return to the industry.
Saroja Devi’s contributions to cinema will always be remembered, and her death marks the end of an era in South Indian cinema. She leaves behind a rich legacy that continues to inspire generations of filmmakers and actors.
