Maverick filmmaker Vetrimaaran has bagged the National Award for Best Director for his critically acclaimed blockbuster hit movie 'Asuran' starring Dhanush and Manju Warrier in the lead roles. This is the fourth National recognition for the celebrated director having bagged two in 2011 for direction and screenplay category for 'Aadukalam' and Best Picture for 'Kaaka Muttai' and 'Visaranai' which he produced.

Dhanush has got the Best Actor National Award for 2019 also for 'Asuran' for his stunning portrayal of an oppressed middle-aged man. This is his second top trophy as India's best after his win for 'Aadukalam'. This goes on to prove once again that the Dhanush-Vetrimaaran combo is one of the most formidable ever not only in Tamil cinema but across the country.

'Asuran' produced by Kalaipuli S Thanu with music score by G.V. Prakash Kumar and cinematography by Velraj also had Manju Warrier, Ken Karunaas, Theejay and Pasupathy in pivotal roles.

D. Imman received the Best Music Director National Award for his melting songs and background score for Thala Ajith's 'Viswasam'.
