A lot of expectations are riding on Vetrimaaran's new movie after his last two 'Vada Chennai' and 'Asuran' not only receiving critical acclaim but also turning out to be blockbuster hits at the worldwide box office as well.

Vetrimaaran started shooting his next starring Soori in the lead based on the short story 'Thunaivan' written by Jeyamohan with Bharathiraja playing a pivotal character. A long schedule was planned in the Sathyamangalam forests but the climatic condition apparently did not suit Bharathiraja and the septuagenarian opted out of the project.

Vetrimaaran's constant collaborator Kishor has replaced Bharathiraja in the film and the shooting has resumed. Isaingniani Ilayaraja is scoring the music and is said to have composed eight songs that will depict different moods in the screenplay.
