Heres why Vicky Kaushals sci-fi film was scrapped

Covid-19 pandemic has changed the entertainment industry and the change is not limited to just films being released on OTT platforms. Since the source of revenue from people is closed, producers are abstaining from putting too much money into their projects. As a result of this, audience lost the opportunity to see Vicky Kaushal in a sci-fi action packed avatar.

He was supposed to reunite with Aditya Dhar and Ronnie Screwvala for a big budget, VFX heavy film titled 'The Immortal Ashwatthama'. The film was initially planned on a budget of 125 crore rupees but as the storyboarding went on, the expected budget of the film was raised to 200 crore rupees.

Ronnie earlier said, "In the last draft of the script, the ambition of the movie and the budget did not match and the overall uncertainty fueled by COVID, did not help. So all of us – Aditya (Dhar), Vicky (Kaushal) and I – decided that we need to put this back for another six to nine months. Sara (Ali Khan, the leading lady), also agreed. We will have to work more on the budget and circle back when things look better overall for the magnum opus which ‘Ashwathama’ is being planned as.”

Since all the members of cast and crew has other films to tend to, it is safe to assume that 'The Immortal Ashwatthama' is history.
