India's only Oscar entry, Pebbles failed to enter the top 10 list in the Oscars run and director Vignesh Shivan who co-produced the film was heartbroken by it. Although he managed to pen a note of hope. The Oscars are to be held in Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on March 27, 2022. The Oscar nominations will be announced on February 8, 2022.

Vignesh took to his Twitter and wrote, " to check if our film has come in the list itself is a big achievement, yes! But still! The happiness & pride that we could have brought in to independent cinema makers and producers like us would have been remarkable! If we could have made it to the short list! ?? @TheAcademy."

The film raised expectations, with a number of critics showering generous praise for it. With all the praises coming from eerie corner Vignesh Shivan hoped that Pebbles wound "the shortlist of fifteen finalists for the Best International Feature Film!."

'Koozhangal', which is based on the relationship between an alcoholic father and his son and follows their journey together to bring back the wife/mother who has gone off to her father’s house, is based on a real incident that took place in director Vinothraj’s family, inspiring him to spin it into a story for his debut film.
