The recent terrorist attack in Kashmir’s Behalgam area, which claimed the lives of 26 innocent Indian citizens, has shocked the entire nation. As India and the global community strongly condemn terrorism and criticize Pakistan’s involvement, controversy has erupted over a few voices within India, particularly in Tamil Nadu, that appear to offer sympathetic views toward Pakistan.
Amid this, actor and music composer Vijay Antony made a social media post yesterday expressing condolences to the victims and their families. However, he also urged people to consider the general public in Pakistan, stating, "The 50 lakh Indians living in Pakistan and the ordinary citizens there, like us, desire only peace and happiness. Let us overcome hatred and embrace humanity."
This message triggered strong backlash, with many criticizing Vijay Antony for failing to explicitly condemn the terrorists. Given that a Pakistani minister openly admitted to training militants, some interpreted Vijay Antony’s post as being overly sympathetic towards Pakistan.
Responding to the criticism, Vijay Antony issued a clarification today. In a new post, he stated, "For those who misunderstood my previous message, the goal of the terrorist group responsible for the Kashmir massacre is to destroy our unity. Together with the Indian government, we will firmly protect our nation's sovereignty."
Despite his clarification, some continue to criticize him, arguing that he should have made his position clearer in his initial statement.
