Actor Vijay Deverakonda has issued a public clarification following backlash over a speech he delivered at the recent ‘Retro Film Festival’. His remarks sparked criticism on social media, leading to a formal complaint being lodged at the S.R. Nagar police station in Hyderabad.

Addressing the controversy on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, Vijay Deverakonda stated:

“It has come to my attention that some of the comments I made during my speech have caused distress to certain individuals. I would like to clarify that it was never my intention to offend anyone.”

He emphasized that his reference to the word “tribe” was meant to highlight ancient ethnic groups and not the officially recognized “Scheduled Tribes” as per the current legal and constitutional definitions in India.

“I hold immense respect and admiration for all communities, especially the Scheduled Tribes,” he said. “India stands for unity in diversity, and my speech was intended to promote that very spirit.”

He further added, “If any of my words were misunderstood or felt offensive, I offer my sincere apologies. My goal has always been to use my platform to support peace, unity, and progress.”

As the police investigate the complaint, the issue has triggered a broader discussion on public figures, accountability, and sensitivity in speech.
