The biopic of Sri Lankan cricketer Muthiah Muralidaran titled 800 will have Vijay Sethupathi playing the lead and will be directed by MS Sripathy. The movie has got into a controversy as Muralitharan had supported Sri Lankan government which had caused the Tamil genocide.

Many netizens have been trending hashtags against the project as well as Vijay Sethupathi and popular Tamil directors like Bharathirajaa, Cheran and Seenu Ramasamy, lyricist Thamarai, have requested Vijay Sethupathi to pull out of the project.

Now, young actor and singer Teejay who was seen as Dhanush's son in Asuran has revealed that he was offered to play the role of young Muralitharan but he had listened to the narration and the war between the Sri Lankan government and the Tamils is shown in the biopic which he felt to be wrong, and with his mother being an Eelam Tamil, he knew the cruelty involved in the war and to avoid getting into the conflicts of the film's politics, Teejay opted out of 800.
