Vijay Yesudas, the most popular playback artist in South Indian Cinema, is still awaiting a breakthrough in his acting career. During a recent gathering, he shared his involvement in the highly anticipated film Ponniyin Selvan 1, directed by Mani Ratnam. However, he also revealed the unfortunate turn of events that led to his replacement in the project.

Vijay's journey in Ponniyin Selvan began when he was personally chosen by filmmaker Dhana, who served as the associate director of the acclaimed film and had previously directed Vijay in Padaiveeran. At the India Today South Conclave 2023, Dhana casually mentioned a character with shades of darkness, sparking Vijay's interest in the role. To his delight, Vijay received a call from Dhana, about his recommendation to the director. Excitedly, Vijay joined the movie set in Rajahmundry the next day, where he shaved his head as well as rode horse to fully immerse himself in the character. Shooting commenced, and Vijay had the privilege of working with Vikram under the guidance of the legendary Mani Ratnam. Vijay mentioned it was an experience he will always treasure.

Unfortunately, Vijay's scenes did not make it to the final cut of the film, leaving him disappointed. This was not the first time he faced such circumstances, as he recalled a similar incident in the Hindi film industry with Rowdy Rathore and another in Tamil. Nevertheless, Vijay remained understanding, acknowledging that directors have the creative freedom to make decisions about scene inclusion.

According to Vijay, "The director had all the right to remove the scenes he didn't want. When I watched the film, I knew what my character was, and there were a lot of such characters in the movie. So, one more episode of that, I as a viewer would have also found it to be a bit boring." Despite this setback, he maintained a positive outlook and eagerly embraced future opportunities. While Vijay's role was ultimately removed from Ponniyin Selvan, his journey as a versatile artist continues. Fans eagerly await his future endeavors in both playback singing and acting, confident that he will shine brightly in his chosen path.
