Vinu Chakravarthy Passes Away

Veteran actor Vinu Chakravarthy (74) has passed away at his home at 7 PM this evening (April 27, 2017). He had been suffering from age related ailments for the past three years.

Vinu Chakravarthy has been acting in Tamil films since 1980s in character, villain and comic roles. He has acted in a total of 1002 films which includes 900 in Tamil, 30 in Malayalam and five in Telugu. He has worked with almost all the leading stars of Tamil film industry starting from Nadigar Thilagam Sivaji Ganesan, Superstar Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Vijayakanth, Sathyaraj, Ramarajan,Vijay, Ajith and others. Especially he is considered as a lucky actor for Rajinikanth with whom he has acted in 25 films. .

Before donning the greasepaint, he worked as a script writer with Kannada director Puttanna Kanagal. He made his acting debut through the Kannada film 'Parasangada Gendetimma'. He has written story screenplay for a few Tamil films including 'Vandichakkaram' starring Sivakumar and Saritha. This film marked the debut of Silk Smitha. It was Vinu Chakravarthy who selected Smitha for the character 'Silk' he wrote for the film and hence he is credited for introducing the much admired glamour actress of South Indian cinema.

Vinu Chakravarthy is survived by wife Karnappoo,son Saravanan and daughter Shanmugapriya. The mortal remains of the actor have been kept at his home at No.63, Abusali Street, Saligramam, Chennai.
