Actor Vishal had last year scored a hit with the action packed thriller Irumbuthirai. Directed by PS Mithran, the technology based thriller which became a commercial success also starred Samantha, Action King Arjun and Robo Shankar and had music by Yuvan Shankar Raja.

Now Vishal is working in his next, Irumubuthirai 2 which is directed by debutant Anand, who had earlier worked as an associate with director Ezhil, and though this movie will not be the exact continuation of Irumbuthirai, it will be set in the similar backdrop as the first part.

While it was earlier announced that Ner Konda Paarvai and Vikram Vedha actress Shraddha Srinath will play the female lead, as a police officer, it has been speculated that Regina Cassandra has been signed to play a key role in Irumbuthirai 2. An official clarification on Regina's role in the movie is expected soon.
