Popular television star VJ Chithra passed away suddenly on December 9th, 2020 and her body was found hanging at a luxury hotel room on the outskirts of Chennai.   Her husband Hemanth Ravi was taken into custody and various speculations did the rounds at the time.

The police certified that Chithra had died by suicide and that there was no evidence of any foul play.  Her body was handed over her parents and she was cremted.  One year has gone by and fans still remember the affable actress and paid tributes to her on social media.

Actress Sharanya Turadi a close friend of Chithra wrote on Instagram "You asked me to stay back with you for few more hours...You held my hands and cried your heart out
You fed me your last lunch...And the next day you left me with an empty space in my heart...I still listen to your innumerable voice notes...I still haven't changed the phone you bought me at Singapore...I still haven't gotten tired of running to Police stations and inquiries, court summons for you...I know you would have done the same for me."

She added "Everytime I eat a good meal, enjoy a funny movie, taste even a little amount of success , feel loved by my closed ones , I think of you.I would say to myself, God what all has she missed in her life?Is it just 29 years for her in this earth?I still ask the same question, why so soon?I am so emotionally shaken that I still haven't mustered the courage to visit your home without you there. I am doing it today.
I am meeting amma appa today. We only hope that you are in a better placeYou'll forever be remembered ChittuPattu".

Kumaran Thangarajan, Diya Menon, Stalin Muthu, Venkat Renganathan, and Sujitha Dhanush were also among the celebrities who paid tributes to Chithra.  It is worth mentioning that Chithra as Mullai in the serial 'Pandian Stores' was so authentic that it made the show a huge hit.  She was replaced by two actresses till now but the connection of the character with fans has diminished according to social media buzz.
