On April 22, a film actress registered a complaint to the Kochi police against well-known Malayalam actor and producer Vijay Babu for sexually assaulting her. Vijay Babu allegedly escaped to Dubai and the Kochi authorities have now handed over the arrest warrant to the Dubai Police.

While there is a growing number of physical abuse allegations reported every day in the Malayalam cine industry, several women artists from Mollywood left the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) to form the Women in Cinema Collective (WCC). It is an organisation that fights for the rights of women artists and technicians there.

Recently, Team Indiaglitz had an opportunity to sit with Padmapriya, an elegant actress and an active member of WCC, and gain her perception on one of the hotly discussed topics of today - the “Me Too” allegation against the renowned actor/producer Vijay Babu.

Q: Throughout the time, the issue was discussed in public, the commoners had a lot of questions regarding why the actress(victim) suffered the abuse for so long to make a complaint and likewise. We post the same question as a representative of the audience.

A: The purpose of WCC is neither to judge the victim nor provide them with a solution but is only to give them the emotional & mental support they would need after such trauma has been inflicted on them.

Q: As was commonly heard from the public, why only the Me-Too allegations about certain personalities are given such highlights whereas many other cases are being drowned?

A: It’s the individual choice of each victim whether to take it up legally or settle it out of court and justice means different to each person.

The talk had definitely widened our perceptions too. She has also responded to the Actress Assault issue that took place in 2017. A full video of her interaction with us can be seen in the following link:
