The Vetrimaaran-Dhanush combo is one of the most productive in Indian cinema creating such critically acclaime blockbuster films as 'Polladhavan', 'Aadukalam', 'Vada Chennai' and 'Asuran'. They have also collaborated as producers for the memorable 'Kaaka Muttai' and 'Visaranai'.

It is well known that in 2012 Vetrimaaran actually started production on 'Vada Chennai' with Simbu playing the lead role and even shot a few sequences. However Simbu was busy with 'Kaalai' and also had to be in the USA for close to five months due to another commitment. The project then got shelved as Cloud Nine the producer of the film decided to shutdown the business.

Vetrimaaran in an exclusive throwback interview with us opened up that though 'Vada Chennai' was started in 2015 with Dhanush, Simbu still called up his arch rival and offered to play another prominent role in the film. According to the acclaimed director by then he had rewritten the script and the role that would have been a strong opponent to Anbu played by Dhanush was scrapped. Hence the opportunity of Dhanush and Simbu working in the same movie was lost.

Vetrimaaran further added that Simbu and Dhanush are close enough friends and would have no problems starring together. He even went on to suggest that since both are directors they can collaborate as actor and director too in the future.

Currently Dhanush is shooting simultaneously for 'Vaathi' directed by Venky Atluri and 'Naane Varuven' directed by Selvaraghavan. Simbu has completed 'Vendhu Thanindhadhu Kaadu' and will move on to 'Pathu Thala' and 'Corona Kumar'. Vetrimaaran on the other hand is in the last leg of shooting for 'Viduthalai' starring Soori, Bhavani Sre, Gautham Vasudev Menon and Vijay Sethupathi.
