History repeats itself` goes a famous English axiom. It seems in the case of Anurag Kashyap's directorial venture BOMBAY VELVET, history is repeating itself! Not Understood?
Well according to the latest reports by trade pundits Anurag Kashyap's much anticipated and much publicized film BOMBAY VELVET has failed to set the box office ringing!
Trade reports pouring from famous trade magazines have revealed that the Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma starrer BOMBAY VELVET has only managed to pull in 45-50% film buffs in cinema halls across the country. What is most shocking is that in many places in India the cinema owners were compelled to cancel their morning shows due to a poor occupancy!!
Eminent Trade analyst Komal Nahta in his tweet informed, "Bad start for BOMBAY VELVET. 1st show at Fun, Gwalior cancelled due to lack of audience. In addition two Inoxes Cinema halls in Indore too reported a dismal collection."
Nahta added, the opening of BOMBAY VELVET was even poorer than Ranbir Kapoor`s last flop ROY. He tweeted, "Even ROY had a better opening than BOMBAY VELVET."
If readers would recollect in the past history is packed with several films that were highly publicized but when they released they fell flat on their face. Remember Salman Khan`s VEER, Hrithik Roshan`s KITES, Aamir Khan`s MANGAL PANDE, Mani Ratnam`s RAAVAN the list is long.
However the movie that shall go down in history as the biggest ever debacle was Anil Kapoor`s ROOP KI RANI CHORON KA RAJA (1993).
Produced by Bonny Kapoor at a rough estimate of Rs 9 Crore (a huge amount then) the movie was started in 1987 but it took six years in making.
It was written by Javed Akhtar (of Slaim Javed fame) and was initially directed by International fame director Shekhar Kapur, who left the project halfway through and was later directed by Satish Kaushik.
The media was ablaze with juicy tales about the making of movie just like Anurag Kashyap's directorial venture BOMBAY VELVET and the film folks gave a thums up at its screening but when it released the audience declared it a flop on day one!!
Will BOMBAY VELVET be a debacle like ROOP KI RANI CHORON KA RAJA?
Well the movie has a good weekend without no new film release as competition, hence it can turn the table, if the movie is really good and worth watching!
