Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution Ram Vilas Paswan hinted that he might soon quit the BJP-led NDA when suggested to the BJP yesterday to 'mend its ways'.

The bearded 71-year old Dalit leader, 8-time Loksabha M.P. and who is also the president of the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP), is sharing power with the BJP ever since it formed a Govt. at the Centre after its mammoth victory during the 2014 Loksabha polls.

The BJP, which has been facing reverses in recent Loksabha by-polls across the Hindi belt, saw its long-time ally Shiv Sena deserting the alliance a few months back.  After its Punjab ally Akali Dal expressed its dissatisfaction over the continuance of its alliance with the BJP, the ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in Andhra Pradesh walked out of the BJP-led NDA for the shoddy treatment it got.

TDP is all set to support a no-confidence motion against the Centre very soon.  Paswan hinted at deviating from the BJP when he said on his Twitter account that "The BJP should make a conscious effort to change its stance towards minorities and Dalits.  Doesn't the BJP have secular leaders; if so, what makes them keep silence? "

"It is time the BJP changed its stance towards minorities; why can't secular leaders in BJP such as Ram Kripal Yadav and Sushil Kumar Modi speak up; are their voices suppressed purposely?" Paswan wondered.

He also blamed the recent Lok Sabha poll reverses to the BJP's 'hate campaign' indulged in by BJP leaders and some Union Ministers.  "It'd be helpful for the BJP to learn from the Congress which had ruled for many years in the past by taking all groups along including the Dalits, the Brahmins and Muslims," Paswan said.
