Vi Anand's highly anticipated film, "Ooru Peru Bhairavakona," starring Sundeep Kishan and Varsha Bollamma, has encountered a legal roadblock. Distributor Bathula Satyanarayana, known as Vizag Satish, has attempted to halt the film's release due to alleged cheating by the producer, Anil Sunkara of AK Entertainments.
Legal Dispute:
Vizag Satish filed a case at the Hyderabad City Civil Court seeking an injunction against the release of "Ooru Peru Bhairavakona." He claims that producers Anil Sunkara and Garikapati Krishna Kishore, under Adventures International, defrauded him after signing a distribution agreement. According to Satish, the producers entered a written agreement for 30 crore, granting his company, Gayathri Devi Films, the exclusive distribution rights for their films in Karnataka, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh for a period of five years.
Alleged Breach of Contract:
Satish alleges that when the 2023 Akhil Akkineni-starrer "Agent" was released, he was only given distribution rights for the Visakhapatnam district, instead of the promised territories. Despite receiving a letter of undertaking from the producers before the film's release, promising to repay him, Satish claims they have not fulfilled their obligation.
Court Proceedings:
A press note released by Vizag Satish's representative indicates that arguments in the case were presented on Thursday, with a request to stay the release of "Ooru Peru Bhairavakona" until his due payment is made.
Producer Response:
The team behind "Ooru Peru Bhairavakona" has also issued a press note, stating that the court has summoned the producers for a hearing on April 12. They assert that all issues related to the film have been resolved, paving the way for a smooth release.
A Pattern of Legal Battles:
This is not the first time that Vizag Satish has taken legal action against AK Entertainments for alleged financial disputes. In August 2022, he filed a similar case to block the release of "Bholaa Shankar," starring Chiranjeevi, Keerthy Suresh, and Tamannaah Bhatia, which was also produced by Anil Sunkara. While the court did not grant an injunction in that instance, the producers' guild intervened and advised producers not to allocate distribution rights to Satish until the matter is resolved.
