The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is planning to begin the women’s Indian Premier League by 2023 with six teams in the inaugural season, as per a statement by a top BCCI official.

BCCI president Sourav Ganguly had informed last month that a full-fledged women’s IPL has to be approved by the AGM. It had also been reported that all the existing ten men’s IPL franchises will be given the first right of refusal to buy the women’s IPL teams. A top BCCI official has now informed Sports Tak that the board has already begun working on the plan. “We have already started working on the plan as to how many teams we can have and what window is going to suit, because we have the men’s IPL as well,” the official was quoted as saying.

“As of now, we can’t share many details but yes, we are really excited for this league. Some franchises have already shown interest and are very keen to be part of this tournament. We are planning to have 6 teams to start with. Our team is working on the auction process and other important aspects of the tournament,” he further added.
