Won’t allow Parliament’s next session if CMB isn’t formed by May 04: Maitreyan

AIADMK’s Rajya Sabha M.P. Dr. V. Maitreyan has warned on his Facebook account that the AIADMK MPs would continue their Parliament-stalling protests even during the next Session of Parliament if a Cauvery Management Board (CMB) is not formed by 03rd May, the date by which the Centre should inform the Supreme Court of its plan or scheme to ensure proper Cauvery water sharing between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

“I’m sure the Centre would take a judicious decision on the issue very soon,” he expressed his confidence in this regard.  Second sitting of the Budget session of Parliament has been affected with both the Houses getting adjourned amid huge protests by TDP, YSR Congress demanding ‘special status’ to Andhra Pradesh and by AIADMK MPs demanding setting up a CMB at once.

BJP MPs sat on a day-long fast yesterday to protest against the opposition parties’ decision to stall Parliament proceedings.  “Thanks to former Tamil Nadu chief-minister J. Jayalalithaa’s determined initiatives, the Congress-led UPA regime at the Centre issued in gazette in 2013 the Cauvery River Water Disputes Tribunal’s 2007 verdict.  However, neither the UPA regime nor the BJP regime (from 2014) displayed any sincerity to set up a CMB to ensure proper sharing of Cauvery river water.

“Centre hasn’t reacted despite Supreme Court’s instructions; instead of acting in an unbiased manner, the BJP-led Centre chose to side with Karnataka in view of the ensuing Assembly polls in the State.  This forced the AIADMK MPs to stage protests and stall Parliament proceedings.  If CMB isn’t formed by May 03, we would stall the next Session of Parliament proceedings too,” Maitreyan asserted in his Facebook post.
