Worrying signs of COVID-19 resurgence in Kerala

With 4070 new coronavirus cases and 15 deaths recorded in the state on Sunday, Kerala is showing worrying signs of COVID-19 resurgence. The total number of active cases in the state is 58,313 while recoveries have reached 9,71,975 over the last 24 hours.

The test positivity rate in the state stands at 7.11%, and Kozhikode district recorded the highest number of cases at 552, followed by Ernakulam at 514 and Kottayam at 440. With this, the state announced 8 new hotspots on Sunday. Alappuzha’s weekly test positivity rate is alarming at 10.7% and the Centre has advised the Kerala government to focus more on the district.

The sudden spike in the cases is due to the carelessness and laxity says the health ministry. Due to this, an alarming second wave of coronavirus across the country is expected. However, the state also records the highest number of daily recovery rates among patients and the death rate due to the virus is the lowest in Kerala.
