With Coronavirus killing hundreds in China, the reality of the unhygienic meat industry is scaring millions across the world.  In India, too, several experts have stressed the need to develop standard practices in the meat industry.

As reported by CNN, meat vendors in small city markets in China and other countries often sell wild animals.  Experts have it that such selling makes them far more dangerous.  "The meat could contain deadly pathogens like the coronavirus," CNN reports.  Chinese health officials believe that the Coronavirus came from wildlife sold illegally at a meat market in Wuhan.

In the past, the Mad Cow disease, SARS (from civets), bird flu in 2005, swine flu in 2009, Ebola, and Nipah virus were caused by wildlife.

With Coronavirus spreading, the WHO has called for precautionary measures. "Wash your hands when preparing meals. Make sure meat products are cooked thoroughly and properly handled," it said.
