Yogi Adityanath moves the needle on Indias biggest film city

With Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath resolving to help build India's biggest film city in Noida, there is a talk that Bollywood will now become more decentralized. Yogi has instructed officials to find land in the Gautam Buddha Nagar district for the purpose. An action plan will be prepared by his officials.

While the headline that India's biggest film city will be built in Noida is catchy, many are sceptical that this will become a reality anytime soon. The idea of building a film city that is bigger than Ramoji Film City is surely a tremendous one.

"Film cities need an ecosystem of talent and resources. Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai and other filmmaking hubs are in existence because of a conducive ecosystem that lets creative talents thrive. Noida is a great place on many counts and I will be very happy if they can build a similar ecosystem without any political interference," says blogger Kartik Dayanand.

It's also true that most of the films shot at Ramoji Film City are non-Telugu films. Film crews travel hundreds of kilometers if the studio offers the best deals. So, it's not like there has to be a strong local industry in place for a film city ecosystem to thrive. A new film city in the country will help the consumer (in this case, film producers), who stand to gain in terms of bargaining power.

Several infrastructure projects have been delayed like hell in the country due to various reasons. On this count, let's just wait out.
