A young black bear from the Henry Hagg Lake in Oregon had to be shot and killed by state officials after the animal got habituated with humans, causing a potential future risk that the wildlife officials were not willing to take.

Despite the authorities making several requests to people around the area to stay away from the bear in order to avoid the tragic outcome, the lack of compliance led to the officials taking the extreme measure, keeping the safety of people the primary concern. The cute young bear had gotten so used to human contact that people started feeding it regularly and even went to the extent of taking selfies with it. Wildlife officials decided that it was no longer possible for the animal to be relocated as it had already gotten too habituated to humans. “This is a classic example of why we implore members of the public not to feed bears. While the individuals who put food out for this bear may have had good intentions bears should never, ever be fed,” a wildlife biologist stated.

It is reportedly against the Oregon state law to feed wildlife. “We’re sad it ended this way. Obviously, no one wants to see a bear get killed, especially its many human fans. But I think it was the human interaction that ultimately led to its tragic end,” Deputy of the Washington County Sheriff’s office said.
