Earlier at least seven films are expected to hit the screens for Pongal 2017 based on the announcement made by the makers. But now it looks like the Kollywood releases for the grand Tamil festival has narrowed down to four.

The seven films that had earlier confirmed a Pongal release are Vijay's 'Bairavaa', G.V.Prakash Kumar's 'Bruce Lee', Vijay Sethupathi's 'Puriyaadha Pudhir', Jai's 'Enakku Vaaitha Adimiagal', Krishna's 'Yakkai', Arun Vijay's 'Kutram 23' and Kalaiyarasan's 'Adhey Kangal'. The announcements came in December 2016.

But as the festival is nearing, only the release of the first three in the above list seems likely. The fourth one to join will be Parthiban's 'Koditta Idangalai Nirappuga' which was earlier scheduled to hit the screens in on December 30 2016 and postponed in the last minute for January 12, 2017.

One of the obvious reasons for this reduction is the availability of adequate number of theatres. Vijay's 60th film 'Bairavaa' will be taking a lion's share of 400-500 screens in Tamil Nadu itself. The other three flicks will have to manage with the remaining 350 and odd screens in the state.

As of now 'Bairavaa' has been scheduled to hit the screens on January 12 (Thursday) while 'Bruce Lee' and 'Puriyaadha Pudhir' will be releasing on Janary 13 (Friday). 'Koditta Idangalai Nirappuga' will be hitting the screens on the Pongal Festival day that is January 14, 2017.

We will have to wait for final release schedules in theatres to ascertain the get the exact count of release for the Pongal festival.
