It is a known fact that to begin with, 'David' was planned as a Hindi film but then later a call was taken to bring it in Tamil as well since the opportunity seemed exciting. This was also the time when rumours started making rounds around how Neil Nitin Mukesh's part was chopped off on the last minute from the Tamil version, something that flabbergasted the lead actor and didn't please him any end.

Though there have been different versions floating around how Neil was supposedly 'ousted' from the Tamil version, filmmaker Bejoy Nambiar spills the beans on what actually transpired.

"I feel bad for Neil since he was not even in the epicentre of this entire so-called drama", Bejoy comes in his actor's defence here, "Reason being that to begin with itself, there was never a character written for Neil so where was the question of dropping him.

Even at the paper level we had South guys like Vikram and Jiiva with us, why would we have gone ahead with another angle to the story? We had actually stepped back and rewritten the Tamil screenplay which made the film completely different. New scenes and characters were added that also led to casting changes".

In fact this was one of the major drivers behind Neil Nitin Mukesh not quite finding way into the Tamil version. However gossip mongers had a field day as there was no stopping all kind of speculations that had started spreading all over once the 'news' broke around the makers doing away with one of their 'Davids' for the Tamil version.

"This was a very negative spun to a non-story which makes you wary about when and how to talk to people about things related to your film. I fail to understand why do people twist and turn things turn around when I had declared in as many words that Neil's story, which worked so fantabulously in the Hindi version, won't work in the Tamil set up. Guess you learn things as you progress", sighs Bejoy.
