Don 2 : SRK remains the King at overseas, dons highest first day non festive at home

Certainly, the King is back but only in overseas.SRK much awaited sequel Don 2 has caught the eye of the overseas audience.The slickly made thriller has gained majors in SRK’s stronghold - the overseas market where the franchise has surpassed his previous MNIK collections.

Shah Rukh Khan’s Don 2 broke the record for the highest single day gross ever for a Hindi film in Australia when it collected US$ 82,000 on Friday. The earlier record was held by the Salman Khan starrer, Bodyguard (US$ 74,000). Don 2 has grossed US $ 1,36,000 in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.

The cumulative gross of Don 2 from the International markets was US$ 3.8 million till Friday. The film opened in 41 countries on the December 23. The rights of the film are to be exploited in a total of 125 countries including a planned phase 2 distribution in 84 countries commencing January 2012.

Don 2 made US$ 5,50,000 gross from 164 locations in North America on Friday (December 23). The film, which opened on Friday, beat My Name Is Khan’s opening day gross of $ 4,45,000. This opening day gross is also higher than the sum of the first three day’s collections of Ra.One.

In UK, where the film opened on Wednesday (December 21), the total gross collections till Friday were US$ 5,27,000 from 76 locations, with collections from the 3D version accounting for two-thirds of the collections.

In the Middle East, Don 2 grossed US$ 9,30,000 on Thursday & Friday. These collections are higher than the first two day’s collections of Ra.One (US$ 7,10,000) and than those of My Name Is Khan (US$ 7,50,000).

On the home front Don 2 has collected Rs. 48.55 crore (all-India net collection) over its first weekend at the box-office. This figure is inclusive of the collections of the original Hindi, dubbed Telugu and dubbed Tamil versions of the film.

Friday Rs. 15.30 crore

Saturday Rs. 15.09 crore.

Sunday : Rs. 18.16 crore

However the movie has not performed to the expectations in the single screens and B & C centers, multiplex has played a huge role in maintaining Shahrukh Khan status at the B.O. the weekend collection of 48 crore for the highly awaited movie like Don 2 starring a star like Shahrukh Khan is no record but still it helps SRK in claiming his stake at the B.O.
