A day after office-bearers of Tamil Film Producers Council (TFPC) announced that they would start a new workers' association, the Film Employees Federation of South India (FEFSI) convened a meeting in Chennai on Tuesday and slammed the TFPC's decision.

In a statement, FEFSI said, "We condemn the move to break FEFSI, which was supported by three Chief Ministers of this State and has got a heritage of more than 40 years. The plan to create a divide among workers will not succeed."

It added: "Some selfish persons in Tamil Film Producers Council are involved in this act. This decision to form a new association has been announced at a time when wage revision talks were over for over 15 trades. We are always ready to support genuine producers."

Later, speaking to reporters, director Ameer, who heads the wage revision talks committee of FEFSI said, "We have submitted a memorandum to the State Labour Commissioner. He has invited us for talks tomorrow (Wednesday). Soon we will meet the Chief Minister in this regard."
